In over the past 40 years of component manufacturing, we have come across some very unique projects at the component level involving manufacturers of medical devices. We have worked with small teams of research scientists at universities as well as midsize and large global companies alike. For Cable assemblies, we were fortunate enough to work with a small group of research scientists at Case Western Reserve University on a program in Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) and Functional Electrical Stimulation (FES). While the program was in its infancy.

Flx Thane LD SD PR imageFlexaust has introduced a new, clear and lightweight, static dissipative polyurethane hose that can replace heavier PVC and polyethylene conductive hoses in many fume and dust collection applications.

Flexaust Flx-Thane® LD-SD Static Dissipative Polyurethane Hose is clear, highly flexible, and compressible, making it ideally suited for a wide range of dust collection and fume extraction applications.  Featuring the inherent abrasion resistance and superior tear strength of polyurethane, this lightweight hose is reinforced with a bronze coated spring wire helix.

Manufactured from FDA approved materials, Flexaust Flx-Thane® LD-SD Static DissipativePolyurethane Hose is available in 2” to 12” I.D. sizes with wall thickness of .020” (2” is .015”) and standard 25 ft. lengths.  Providing 108 x 1010 Ohms/Sq. surface resistivity, it operates over a -65°F to 225°F range.  A 4” dia. hose has a 3.75” bend radius and 4:1 compression ratio.

morterDalatec has seen many new requirements from hospitals and pharmacies that need cleanroom consumables, wipers, swabs, mops and disinfectants for their required sterile environments. The United States  Pharmaccpeida (USP) has developed standards for compounding in sterile environments. These standards help compounding practitioners adhere to widely acknowledged, scientifically sound procedures and practices, and facilitate the delivery of consistent and good-quality prepared medicines to patients. State Boards of Pharmacy may adopt these USP standards into their regulations.

The objective of USP <797> is to describe conditions and practices to prevent harm, including death, to patients that could result from:

  • Microbial contamination,
  • Excessive bacterial endotoxins,
  • Variability in the intended strength of ingredients,
  • Chemical and physical contaminants,
  • Incorrect type or quality of ingredients in Compounded Sterile Preparations (CSPs).

USP <797> provides practice and quality standards for all persons who prepare CSP drugs and nutrients and all places they are prepared. They require that the preparation of CSPs occur in ISO Class 5 (Class 100) environments, buffer areas of ISO Class 7 (Class 10,000), and ante-areas of ISO Class 8 (Class 100,000). Achieving and maintaining these cleanroom environments requires new procedures and protocols. ITW Texwipe® has been the cleaning technology leader in controlled environments for more than four decades. We have the advice, tools and products for such USP <797> requirements as:

Since there has been much recent news about viruses and bacteria contamination, especially Ebola,  we thought it would be timely and of interest to relate the types of cleanroom products and how they address "disinfecting".  Disinfection reduces the number of viable microorganisms.  When instruments are used inside the body, the disinfectant is not enough, the instruments should be sterilized.  Sterilization kills viable microorganisms.

For the sterilization of the instruments (like surgical instruments) sterilants are used.   The sterilants are the high concentration of Hydrogen peroxide solutions (35%) and Aldehides (like formaldehyde).  These solutions are not used for the surface disinfection because they are very corrosive and toxic for people.  The instruments are soaked in the sterilant for the time marked on the sterilant label (may be several hours).
